Photos of a policeman who was allegedly drunk and had passed out at a mall in Westville, Durban, have sparked social media outrage.

A Facebook page, Police Pics and Clips, shared the photos on 28 July, Briefly.co.za gathered.

The unidentified cop is seen sprawled on the floor. Although his gun was still fastened to its holster, someone could easily have dispossessed him of it.

The Facebook page claimed that the cop is stationed at Westville SAPS and was on a night shift. It was morning when he was found.

According to Daily Sun, KZN police spokesman, Brigadier Jay Naicker, said investigations into the incident are underway:

The cluster commander is personally investigating this matter with a view to instituting an internal departmental investigation.

The photos went viral, racking up more than 400 comments and 8,300 shares so far. Many social media users condemned the officer's alleged behaviour.

However, others said he might be suffering from depression and therefore needs help instead of disciplinary action. See more reactions below.
