Police nab Mamelodi Sundowns player for speeding on the freeway

- Police have arrested yet another soccer player for over speeding in what is become a disturbing trend

- The police blitz swooped on motorists who were going above the speed limit in Gauteng over the weekend

- The Mamelodi Sundowns star is not the first to be hauled to the courts on over speeding charges as many other players have been caught before

Police have arrested a Mamelodi Sundowns player for over speeding Briefly.co.za has learnt. The 32 year old Premier league champion was driving his silver Toyota Quest in a speed of 180km/h in a 120km/h zone. According to Sowetan Live, the Department of Safety spokesperson Ofentse Morwane the player has been formally charged and will appear in court soon.

The arrest comes against the backdrop of numerous arrests over the years in which high profile soccer players have appeared in court as a result of over speeding. The player who was granted bail is set to appear at the Midrand Magistrate Court over the charges

Last year another an Orlando Pirates player was charged for reckless driving after exceeding the speed limit. The Department of Safety has called on the players to be exemplary and serve as role models instead of being found in the wrong side of the law.
