The newly appointed Tshwane ANC regional chairperson Kgosi Maepa is accused of abuse towards a woman.

Maepa allegedly threatened Simphiwe Mbatha, the treasurer, with extreme violence and swearing at her.

The SAPS has confirmed a case of intimidation has been opened against the chairperson, as reported by IOL News. The case was opened in Pretoria West.

The incident is reported to have happened on 19 July at the Tshwane Events Centre. Maepa allegedly said he would shoot and kill Mbatha after a voting delegate that Maepa put forward was contested.

Maepa is also accused of calling Mbatha a stupid woman and swearing at her in Sesotho.

Mbatha wrote a letter to the ANC Women's League about the alleged threats and abusive behaviour. In the letter she asks the league for protection from Maepa.
