Bidvest Wits coach will be hoping his new signings will get off to a flyer when they host Free State Stars at the Bidvest Stadium this weekend. The club parted ways with several players and brought in younger and yet experienced campaigners from local rival clubs. It is these players that Hunt hopes will be able to recapture the form that saw the Students bag their maiden Premier League title in the 2016/2017 season.

The dismal performance of the Students barely a year after clinching the crown will still be fresh on coach Gavin Hunt's mind hence the shopping spree as he tries to find the winning combination to a side that looked jaded and shorn of any inspiration last season. Briefly.co.za learnt that the coach will look to put that past behind him as aging players like Moeneeb Josephs, Daine Klate, Nazeer Allie, James Keene, Vincent Pule, Ben Motshwari, Eleazar Rodgers, Bongani Khumalo and Kyle Peters all cleared their lockers at the Braamfontein based side.

To help steady the ship the coach has roped in Haashim Domingo, Bantu Mzwakali, Zimbabwean Terrence Dzvukamanja, Mxolisi Macuphu, Lehlohonolo Nonyane, Gift Motupa, along with the steely Robyn Johannes, Deon Hotto and former Orlando Pirates keeper Brighton Mhlongo. In addition to these players Hunt has given former Platinum stars captain Vuyo Mere a one year deal and also gave the nod to Simon Murray who turned out for Scottish Premiership side Hibernian. The game against a tricky Free State Stars side will give Hunt a clear picture of how long the season will be in terms of team performance.
