Early on Saturday morning, the Kareedouw police station in the Eastern Cape was the victim of a robbery at the hands of four armed men.
They made off with two R5 rifles and three 9mm pistols as well as radio equipment. The robbers held up the officer on duty and forced him at gunpoint to access the lockers containing the weapons.
Briefly.co.za learned that the spokesperson for the police station, Captain Gerda Swart, has confirmed that the robbery took place at approximately 01:40 and that the Eastern Cape Commissioner Lieutenant, General Liziwe Ntshinga has launched a provincial manhunt for the perpetrators according to thesouthafrican.com.
Parliament has noted that South African police stations are seriously lacking the appropriate safety measures to prevent incidents such as this.
