- Xolani Gwala has returned to radio after battling colon cancer
- He says that it was hell fighting the disease
- Doctors diagnosed him in August 2017
Radio personality Xolani Gwala was diagnosed with colon cancer a year ago and he says that fighting the disease has been hell.
After receiving the news, he took a break from his talk show on Radio 702 to focus on treatment.
Now in remission, Gwala completed 6 cycles of chemotherapy and multiple surgeries.
Briefly.co.za learned that he has returned to radio and will not take another day for granted.
Gwala, the 702 team and listeners are glad to have him back on the air.
Gwala was 42 years old when he found out about the cancer. Doctors told him that it had already began to spread to other parts of his body.
SowetanLIVE reports that at first, Gwala suffered from a fever. He made numerous trips to the doctors to find out what was causing it. Doctors had initially diagnosed him with a viral infection.
His wife was unconvinced and took him to hospital where his temperature hit 40 degrees. Immediately staff put him in isolation to begin tests.
Gwala went on to say how thankful he is for his friends and family. He also thanked the doctors that helped him along the way and that he is blessed to have been able to afford the necessary treatment.
