Social media users were left dumbfounded after it was announced former ANC parliament member Mduduzi Manana was set to speak at an event against gender-based violence.
South Africans would have the opportunity to listen to 'legends' speaking against gender-violence on 11 August, for between R1000 and R5000 a ticket.
One of the mentioned 'legends' to address the crowd is Mduduzi Manana, and tweeps freaked out.
Social media user @gwambesphe wrote, "so the perpetrator is going to be speaking out against gender based violence...how does any of this make sense."
Kanya, who goes by the Twitter handle @kanyazim, added: "This will be sponsored by some sphere of government. No sane woman would pay to listen to Mduduzi Manana speak on gender violence."
The reason for social media users' shocked reaction is because Manana is a convicted women beater.
Last year, Manana and two of his friends were accused of assaulting three women, Mandisa Duma‚ Noluthando Mahlaba and Thina Mopipa.
The former deputy minister of education pleaded guilty and opted for a R100k fine. But, it was not the last of his alleged women beating days.
Last month, Manana's domestic worker accused him of assaulting her and threatening to have her deported.
However, as Briefly.co.za reported previously, the NPA announced it would not prosecute Manana for the alleged assault on his help, due to a lack of solid evidence.
