- She pursued it, forced the suspects to flee on foot, and recovered stolen items
A policewoman stationed at Sandringham SAPS in Alexandra, Johannesburg, has been hailed a hero after chasing down thugs in her private car recently.
Nkele Mbatha was remarkably off-duty when the incident occurred, Briefly.co.za gathered.
According to the Facebook page Police Pics and Clips, Nkele was driving home after her shift on 3 August when she noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle being driven recklessly.
When she drove closer to ask the car's occupants why they were driving recklessly, they took off. Nkele immediately gave chase, forcing the car's driver to crash into a side barrier.
Nkele called for backup while giving chase, News24 reports. The suspects fled on foot and police recovered stolen items as well as housebreaking tools.
Social media users hailed Nkele as a hero and commended her for her bravery and dedication.
Contrary to prevalent perceptions, there are many heroic policemen and women in South Africa who go beyond the call of duty.
Briefly.co.za recently covered the story of a policeman in Springs, Gauteng, who saved a little girl from drowning in a river.
