- Jeanne Geldenhuys, Mugg & Bean operations executive, stated the CCMA has been contacted to address the matter
Former manager of Mugg & Bean restaurant in Waterstone Village Mall in Somerset West, Andile Bozo, was forced to approach the CCMA after he was retrenched.
Andile says he was dismissed from his job and told the customers insisted on a white manager. He feels he was unfairly dismissed from the restaurant where he worked for 4 and a half years.
IOL News reports that Jeanne Geldenhuys, Mugg & Bean operations executive, says the matter was taken to the CCMA and they are now awaiting a date to be set for a hearing. She added that Mugg & Bean do not tolerate racism in any form.
Andile worked himself up from washing cars to being the manager of the Mugg & Bean restaurant.
The former manager remembers that the trouble started shortly after the restaurant had a new owner. The owner was concerned that there were no white waiters or waitresses.
The new owner appointed white employees who didn't work long before quitting. Eventually, the owner employed his son and not much later he informed Andile he did not need him anymore.
A report by The South African indicates that Andile was popular with customers and well liked. One customer even wrote to the Cape Times after finding out about Andile's dismissal.
The customer hailed Andile as a competent manager and expressed her shock at his dismissal.
