A video was shared on Tuesday, which showed a hammered police officer getting a lot of attention outside a police station.

Although the man appeared to be dressed in normal clothing, the Gauteng police confirmed he was one of their own on Wednesday.

Crime Air Network shared the video on Twitter with the caption, "The man in civilian clothing putting up a performance is a warrant officer at this Sandton Police Station. It is alleged he was drunk yet on duty."

However, Briefly.co.za learned Gauteng police spokeswoman Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said although the man is an officer, he was not on duty.

She added the man was on vacation leave the day the incident took place.

The video sparked quite the reaction from social media users, some of whom expressed concern for the officer's mental well being.

Social media user @TEDDYNBEAR wrote, "There is more. I think he must be having stress or depression. This cannot just happen."

Other tweeps only pointed the pure strength of the cop who lifted the drunk police officer as if he was a "bag of potatoes".
