- Pabi struggled with money before making it big
- She was stuck on the freeway with no petrol and no money
- She was doing an unpaid internship and couldn’t afford to get herself to work each day
Before Pabi Moloi made a name for herself, she used to be so broke that she ran out of petrol on the freeway.
Briefly.co.za learned that at the beginning of her career, Pabi was doing an unpaid internship and on her way to work one morning, she was left stranded on the freeway after her car ran out of petrol.
Thankfully, she was able to make it to work after gathering some spare change and walking to the nearest petrol station to buy 2 litres of petrol. Once she got to work, one of her colleagues gave her R60 to help her get through the rest of the month.
TimesLIVE reports that Pabi also had to borrow money from her aunt to make ends meet. She also commented that young people are only offered jobs where they earn hardly any money, but they are still expected to get by.
She felt that it is unfair to offer unpaid internships to people where they are expected to do a full day’s work but are not given anything to help them cover the costs of travelling there every day.
The TV and radio personality has been vocal about the way wealth has been distributed. She recently took to Twitter to post a picture of shacks, commenting that she can’t believe that people still live like this in 2018.
Her tweet sparked a debate as tweeps began discussing different ways that the issue could be solved while others took the chance to point fingers at the government.
Pabi hopes that by sharing her experience as an intern, she can get people talking about the opportunities available for the youth.
