A guest told host, Mzilikazi wa Afrika on an episode of ‘Sofa Slahlane’, that love won’t pay the bills, so she is dating someone for money.
The topic of dating for love or money took off and triggered some interesting responses from both listeners and tweeps alike.
Within a matter of minutes, the show's hashtag, #SofaSlahlane, began rending in South Africa.
Followers on social media had a lot to say on the matter and they came up with some different points of view.
Some tweeps compared dating for money to prostitution and argued that it could easily lead to abuse.
Others used this opportunity to share some dating advice.
There was no clear winner to the discussion but it gave a lot of people time to think about the topic.
Some still felt that money was not important to them while others made money a higher priority.
Briefly.co.za recently learned of a man who went to pick up three different women in a bakkie to take them out on a date.
The man had suspected that the women were after money and were only interested in him because of the flashy cars he owns.
To teach them a lesson, he arrived to pick each one up from their home in his bakkie instead of a Mercedes.
None of the women would agree to get in the car.
