- A bus driver who was caught on video punching a passenger, was fired from his job
- The driver lost his cool after the man called him racial slurs and then spit on him
- He said he could handle the n-word, but when the man spat on him, he could not control himself
Terrence Barber, a bus driver from Florida, lost his job over an incident that took place on Mother's Day this year.
Barber had a confrontation with one of the men who got on the bus and refused to pay. However, the passenger got nasty and ended up using racial slurs against Barber and spitting at him.
The bus driver said he was used to racism, so he could handle the man calling him the N-word. However, when he spat at him, Barber lost his cool and assaulted him.
The 45-year-old worked with Palm Tran for five-years before the incident, which resulted in a three month suspension.
However, he recently received a letter which indicated his employment with the company has been terminated.
According to Clinton Forbes, the executive director of the Palm Tran bus system, Barber refused to let the man off the bus, IOL reported.
Forbes said audio and video footage proved Barber 'locked' the man in, however he was not sure if the released video included those parts.
Briefly.co.za learned Barber was disappointed with with happened but added he would not have done anything differently.
