Manchester Utd opened their Premier League account with a narrow 2-1 win against Leicester City as the season kicked off. Manager Jose Mourhino expressed disappointment at the club's failure to add any further signings after the arrival of the Brazilian Fred from Shaktar Donetsk. Title rivals Liverpool made massive additions to their squad and are likely to fancy their chances of a Premier League title after 29 years.

Tottenham broke the record by making no signings until the closure of the window. Their North London neighbours Arsenal added defensive options and boosted the midfield in addition to a new coach. It remains to be seen how the season will pan out while champions Man City lost out on Jorghino to Chelsea but were still good value for money on Riyad Mahrez. The season has kicked off and the biggest losers in the transfer window were Manchester United.
