- Free State MEC allegedly called all white people rapists
- She also allegedly called for the bodies of all white people to be exhumed so they can pay for their “sins”
- Mathabo Leeto denies the allegations
Free State MEC for sport, arts, culture and recreation, Mathabo Leeto allegedly called all white people rapists and also called for the bodies of dead white people to be exhumed so they can somehow be made to account for their “sins”.
According to The Citizen she apparently made these statements shortly after having charges of fraud, corruption and money laundering withdrawn against her and several of her comrades.
Ernst Roets, the deputy CEO of AfriForum, has stated her remarks call for disciplinary action.
“If the necessary disciplinary steps are not taken against Leeto, one can only conclude that her misconduct is endorsed by the provincial government,” he said.
However, when questioned by OFM News, Leeto stated she was not a racist and then denied making the comments.
“I said the issue of the abuse of women and children is not a new thing; it’s historic. In 1652, when Jan van Riebeeck came to South Africa, our great-grandfathers were made slaves and our great-grandmothers were raped. I am not a racist, I can’t make racist comments,” Leeto was quoted as saying.
The DA has called for recordings to assess whether or not the remarks were made.
It will be interesting to see how this situation plays out as racist comments from political party members have been surfacing for a while now and each one appears to be dealt with individually. Briefly.co.za reported on Vicki Momberg’s racial incident.
Vicky Momberg was released on R2 000 bail on 2 August by the Randburg Magistrate's Court.
She was convicted of racism and handed a 3-year sentence, with 1 year suspended and ordered to pay R100 000 to the policeman she verbally abused.
