The South African Revenue Service (Sars) has announced it is launching an in-depth investigation into the payment of millions of rands in VAT to Gupta-linked companies and individuals.
The Daily Maverick’s investigative unit Scorpio and News24 have reported they have evidence showing how Sars illegally paid more than R400 million in these forms of payment.
According to Scorpio and News24, the VAT refunds were paid into an attorney’s trust account to a shelf company.
Stories surrounding the Gupta’s get more and more horrifying on almost a daily basis.
Briefly.co.za reported on when Lord Robin Renwick, a former British diplomat, launched his latest book, How To Steal A Country which details the allegations of state capture in which the Gupta Family along with Jacob Zuma allegedly stole an estimated R200-billion from the country.
Perhaps this latest revelation could have made for the start of a sequel.
