Mashaba defended his tweet and said he wanted to point out that Trump achieved successes despite his bad reputation and Ramaphosa has a country full of issues.

The mayor added that he personally likes South Africa's president.

People called Mashaba's actions irresponsible and he has since deleted the tweet.

Mashaba was not the only DA member to stir up controversy on Twitter on Monday morning, as Western Cape Premier Helen Zille used the platform to yet again defend her arguments on colonialism.

South Africans responded on social media:

According to a report by IOL News, Mashaba wasn't the only Democratic Alliance member that caused a social buzz. Helen Zille once again defended her colonialism arguments on Monday.

Zille got into trouble last year for her tweets in which she made similar claims about colonialism. She was suspended and had to apologise for what she said.
