- Her daughters, Verné and Mika, are living with family friends
- Well-wishers have rallied to help them with groceries
Well-wishers have reached out to help two teenage girls in Pretoria who lost their single mom to cancer earlier this year.
According to Jacaranda FM's Breakfast Show, the mom, Tanya, battled cancer for two years bur finally succumbed in May.
During that time, her girls, Verné and Mika, were living with family friends. Two well-wishers, Anita and Johan Pio, wrote to the Breakfast Show appealing for help for the girls.
The response was encouraging. Spar North Rand and the Pretoria Spar Women’s Challenge pledged grocery vouchers for the family worth R25,000, Briefly.co.za gathered.
ATKV Die Eiland Spa also invited the girls and their guardians to an all-expenses-paid weekend getaway.
Donnalee Roberts and Ivan Botha, who acted in and produced the movie Stroom-op, also invited the family to a special viewing of the movie.
Meanwhile, the girls' grandmother resigned from her job in Cape Town and is relocating to Pretoria to care for them.
