- Zaheerah Patel's dad went on a business trip in 1989 but never returned
- Almost 30 years later, his family still doesn't know what happened to him
- Zaheerah hasn't given up hope of seeing him again
A distraught family in Lenasia, Gauteng, is still looking for answers nearly three decades after their father went missing.
47-year-old Zaheerah Patel told News24 that her dad, Shouqat Ally Loonat, went on a business trip from Gauteng to Durban in March 1989 but never returned.
Her mom and the entire family reported the disappearance and a massive search followed, Briefly.co.za understands.
However, there was no trace of Loonat, who would have been 73 years old this year. Zaheerah said her dad travelled by air and left his car at the airport:
I can still picture that moment my dad walked down the passage in his suit and briefcase and I eventually ran out to hug and kiss him goodbye. It was the last time.
The family's business suffered as a result and they had to relocate from Zuurbekom to Lenasia. Zaheerah's mom, now 70, survives on a monthly pension.
Zaheerah rues the fact that her dad missed milestones in her life, such as her graduation and marriage. However, she remains hopeful of seeing him again:
To this day I’m still hoping to see him. I pray for him every single day. Only God knows what happened to him.
