American gospel singer and queen of soul music, Aretha Franklin is dead. The singer was diagnosed with cancer in 2012 and reportedly suffered from some major health issue ever since then. She eventually retired from music in 2017.
Prior to her death, Briefly.co.za reported the news of how the singer was said to be in critical medical condition. According to reports, the singer while still fighting for her life, was surrounding by her family up until her passing.
Considered a music legend, Aretha Franklin who is a mother of 4, dominated the music industry for five decades with her strong vocal skills and her powerful lyrics. Her music career earned 18 Grammy awards and sold over 75 million records.
Her performances have graced the likes of Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2009 and she became the first female performer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in in 1987. She is survived by 4 children.
