Marriage is a serious step and two teenagers who recently got engaged believe they are ready to take it.
On Sunday, 16-year-old Siyacela Dlamuka from Ulundi and his grade eight girlfriend, Nkandla resident Thando Mathebula, got engaged at Corinthians Christian Church in KwaZulu Natal.
Needless to say, the teens' engagement came as a shock to some and the Daily Sun reported the culture experts were against it.
However, Briefly.co.za learned while many thought the teenagers getting married at such a young age would be a mistake, the couple received their parents' blessings.
The groom-to-be's dad, 58-year-old Mthandeni Dlamuka said he saw no reason to deny the couple their happiness, adding it was better than a relationship with an unplanned pregnancy.
According to the father, his son knew he wanted to marry Mathebula when he first saw her in church in 2016.
And, apparently it was his idea for the two teenagers to make their relationship 'official'. After his son said he wanted to marry Mathebula, the father called them both in to speak to them, where they confirmed their relationship.
“They admitted they were seeing each other, so I decided they must make things official," Dlamuka said.
