- The Clever Boys soaked up the early pressure from the Bucs and began to get in the game gradually looking dangerous on the break
- Both sides had their chances and it is the Buccaneers who should have broken the deadlocked in the 3rd minute and Justin Shonga conspired to miss when it looked easier to score
- With the clock winding down it was increasingly clear that the first to score would steal the result and it was the Clever Boys who nicked it.
Bidvest Wits who dabbled with relegation in a season to forget previously have shot off the blocks menacingly this season. The Clever Boys made 11 signings and coach Gavin Hunt's tactical ability has seen him get the most out of his boys while his counterparts at Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have struggled to find the right combinations. Last night the Students accounted for Orlando Pirates and have already fired a 3 goal salvo past Kaizer Chiefs to get their third win on the trot in the league.
Wits had their chances in the early exchanges and after the interval pirates almost threatened to run them over but to their credit they remained in the game soaking up the pressure and looking to counter when possible. The enterprising Deon Hotto was in the thick of every move that could have rewarded Wits but it was not a Wits player who put the ball in the net as Pirates player Gladwin Shitolo deflected the ball into his own net in the 80th minute. The Bucs tried to rally back but it was too little too late.
