- A memorial service was held for hip-hop star ProKid on Thursday
- EFF leader, Julius Malema, attended and gave a moving speech
- He said that he wants to assist struggling artists in anyway that he can
There were hundreds of people that came out to celebrate the life of ProKid. EFF leader, Julius Malema, was in attendance at the memorial service that was held on Thursday at Bassline, in Johannesburg, reported Times Live.
The 37-year-old hip-hop artist suffered a severe seizure which sadly took his life on 8 August.
Briefly.co.za learnt that Julius conveyed to the mourners that he would only say a few words and then he wanted to hear the challenges that hip-hop artists are facing, after which he could see how he could assist them.
Malema said he was aware of the contribution that Pro had made. He said he was concerned that he was told that the contribution was made to Soweto which he disagrees with saying that Soweto is a synonym for a place that black people stay in.
Pro’s contribution was to the people of South Africa and to blackness. He went on to say that it’s because of people like Pro who was never ashamed of who is was or where he came from that makes black people more self-assured.
ProKid was remembered with moving tributes and some amazing performances.
