You would think that if you were the first wife of the man that many see as one of the world's best peace icons, your home would be considered somewhat important. That's not the case for the first wife of late Nelson Mandela - easily the most famous peace icon of his time.
Evelyn Mase Mandela's home in Cofimvaba has fallen into absolute ruin. Not only do people come and go on the property as they please, the building has been vandalised as well.
Evelyn's first home is on the main street of Cofimvaba in the Eastern Cape and has been tragically neglected.
Evelyn lived in the house for 32 years until she passed away in 2004. She loved her garden and always kept her home in good condition.
Neighbours are sad to see the house in such a dilapidated state. It now belongs to the Mandela family.
TimesLIVE reported that Mandla Mandela said it pained them to see their grandmother's home in such a state. He added that they plan to restore the home to its former dignity.
The restoration of the house will begin soon and funds will be sourced privately and we hope government will play their part.
Intsika Yethu mayor, Jongumzi Cengani, stated that the home is part of South Africa's history and the municipality will play a role in ensuring that history is not lost.
