South African music legend, Johnny Clegg has opened up about his battle with cancer over the past few years, but he has also promised to release new music soon.
In 2015, doctors diagnosed Clegg with stage two pancreatic cancer and would require surgery in the next few days in an attempt to stop the cancer from spreading.
He underwent an intensive surgery that lasted 7 hours where surgeons took out half of his pancreas, gallbladder, bile duct and half of his stomach.
Clegg has been in and out of remission since his diagnosis as the cancer keeps returning.
Leading up to 2017, Clegg underwent six months of chemotherapy and by February he was once again in remission.
At this point, he was itching to get on the road again but knew that his poor health would hamper his performance.
However, he decided that he will embark on a farewell tour to thank his fans for supporting his music after all these years before his health deteriorated any further.
His family and management then planned his ‘Final Journey’ tour which took him around the world.
Briefly.co.za learned that he managed to perform quite a few shows at home, London and Dubai before he was forced too cancel some of his other concerts to focus on his wellbeing.
Unfortunately, doctors revealed that he had stage four cancer after finding a high tumor count and lesions on his lungs.
Clegg took to Facebook to announce some more cancellations and to let fans know about his health.
In his post, he also promised to continue his tour in 2019 but only if his health allows it.
The South African reports that Clegg will be releasing a new music next month and he will also be holding press tours to promote his latest album, ‘King of Time’.
He has released one of the tracks from the album, entitled 'I've Been Looking' which he recorded with his son, Jesse Clegg who has followed in his father's footsteps and made his own name in the music industry.
