A woman from East London turned to Twitter recently to appeal for help for her friend who lost everything in a house fire.
Ngxovu shared photos of the fire's aftermath on her profile, Briefly.co.za gathered. She said her friend works as a waitress and has a son doing matric this year. She added:
Please help them start over. Your retweets and donations would be highly appreciated.
Ngxovu indicated in a subsequent tweet that the fire happened at a squatter camp in Gqobhasi, Beacon Bay.
Her considerate appeal has touched the hearts of many tweeps, garnering over 1,200 retweets and 300 likes. Kind well-wishers also offered to help.
Social media has become a powerful platform for mobilising assistance for those in distress across the country.
