Simphiwe Thunzi is a top coffee connoisseur who runs the popular Kukoma coffee shop in Cape Town.
His journey to the top has however not been easy. According to coffeeshopblues.co.za, Simphiwe was introduced to a life of crime when he was a teenager.
His life became one of stealing and selling drugs. He eventually landed in jail for the first time in 2006 at the age of 17.
Simphiwe continued his life of crime despite being shot several times. He ended up being convicted of robbery and was sentenced to 18 years at the Drakensberg prison.
It was there that he joined the 26's gang and became a top smuggler. Fortunately, a pastor friend of his managed to guide him away from crime.
Upon completing his sentence, Simphiwe resolved to stay on the straight and narrow. He joined Gangstar Café as a coffee maker, riding on his well-known talent and reputation as the "Coffee Guy."
Kukoma's owners soon headhunted him to run their coffee shop. He hasn't looked back since then and his story is inspiring the many people he meets.
In recent Facebook posts, Simphiwe revealed that he hopes to write a book about his life story to inspire others.
He's also keen to share his message through media such as newspapers, TV and radio.
