It's no secret that President Ramaphosa and John Steenhuisen have a love-hate relationship that can put the best soapie to shame. Recently, South Africa was treated to the latest chapter in the book that is the Ramaphosa-Steenhuisen story.

President Ramaphosa made up with Steenhuisen after he told him to shut up three months ago by giving him the cigar he promised long ago.

The South African head of state is usually one of the few politicians in the country that remains calm in parliament, but after Steenhuisen pressed the wrong buttons he finally snapped. Briefly.co.za reported South Africans were surprised to see the president lose his cool like that.

At the end of a long day in Parliament, President Ramaphosa had one final matter to conclude.

He gave Steenhuisen his cigar and praised him for his 'good behaviour' during the day.

The cigar story goes back to when Steenhuisen gave Ramaphosa a cigar after he was sworn in as president. However, the cigar came with a sting: Steenhuisen offered the new president a matchbox - so he can pack his credibility in it as well.

If this cigar-offering doesn't show that South Africa's president has a sense of humour as well as the ability to be the bigger man, what will?

Afterwards, Steenhuisen could be seen waving his cigar around quite happily.
