The petrol attendant who went viral for rescuing an elderly woman from armed thugs recently has said he was not scared during the incident.

As Briefly.co.za reported, Lawrence Kananji bravely confronted the muggers along a street in Milnerton, Cape Town.

They had thrown the elderly woman to the ground and were robbing her of her valuables. When they saw Lawrence approaching, they took off.

A witness, Glenn Trevor, shared the story on his Facebook page, where it went viral. Commenters hailed Lawrence for his heroism.

Speaking to sapeople.com, Lawrence said he's originally from Malawi. He described the incident:

One guy jumped out of a car and attacked a lady. I saw it happen. Then I walked fast to them, but they quickly threw her down and were beating her to get stuff from her.

When he got closer, the muggers jumped into their car and drove off. He said one of them pointed something at him:

I was not scared of that. I wanted to save the lady from them. Glory be to the Lord. Thank you all.
