- A Cape Town community recently protested the lack of visible policing in their area
- A pensioner dished out free fruits during the peaceful protest
- He has won praise for his kind and selfless gesture
A pensioner in Factreton, Cape Town, distributed free fruits to protesters recently to thank them for maintaining the peace.
Leonard Daniels, a fruit vendor, was impressed by the peaceful protest and decided to dish out the fruits from his own stock, Good Things Guy reports.
The Factreton community was protesting the lack of adequate visible policing in their area, Briefly.co.za learned. As a result, gangsterism and crime have escalated.
One of the protesters, Tifny Arends, praised Leonard for his kind and selfless gesture:
The guy who assisted has his own fruit and veg stand in the area. A pensioner, but he came with several boxes and handed out free fruits.
Tifny also shared several photos of vendors who joined Leonard to hand out fruits to members of the community.
Tifny said the community has had enough of rising crime levels, hence the protest:
All that we want and deserve is more visible and active policing. In addition to what makes us different is our decision to have a peaceful protest. No fires, looting, shooting or stone throwing.
She hoped that the police would look into their plight to stop more loss of lives in the area caused by gang violence.
