A Cape Town-based lawyer has offered free legal services to single moms wishing to obtain maintenance orders against absent fathers.
The lawyer, known only as @HannibalThe16th, made the offer on his Twitter profile recently, Briefly.co.za gathered. He wrote:
I am an environmental lawyer but I am also very passionate about dealing with absent fathers! Any single mother looking to get a maintenance order hit me up in my DM. I will do this for free. Men need to be held responsible for their offspring.
His offer was inspired by a tweet that highlighted the plight of single mothers, who often have to pursue their careers and studies while raising a child on their own.
Tweeps hailed @HannibalThe16th as a hero for his offer. His tweet has garnered a whopping 1,800 retweets and 1,400 likes so far.
Some tweeps sent the lawyer their best wishes.
One lady shared how her child's dad deserted them twice.
