- A Canadian bride wanted a once-in-a-lifetime wedding
- She therefore asked her friends to contribute R17,000 to attend
- When they refused, she cancelled the wedding and criticised them in a Facebook post
A Canadian bride angrily called off her wedding recently after her friends refused to pay a whopping R17,000 to attend it.
A Twitter user, @0lspicykeychain, shared the incredible story on her profile, Briefly.co.za learned.
The unnamed bride announced the cancellation in a Facebook post, whose screenshots @01spicykeychain shared.
The bride-to-be also announced that she had broken up with her groom-to-be just four days before their wedding.
She would embark on a two-month backpacking trip in South America "to explore her soul" and rid herself of "toxic energy."
She and her boyfriend had been together for over four years and have a son together. She revealed that her engagement ring cost almost R50,000 and that her dream wedding would cost R600,000.
To raise this staggering amount, she asked her friends and family to contribute R17,000 each to her invite-only wedding. Those who didn't contribute wouldn't be invited.
However, despite a few pledges, many of her friends simply found the amount too high. They therefore declined to pay it.
The last straw for the bride came when the groom offered her a cheaper wedding in Las Vegas, which she considered an "insult." She therefore broke up with him. She wrote:
I mean, seriously people, what is [R17,000]? Clearly not a lot. It would be quite manageable and within a budget. I just wanted to be a Kardashian for a day.
Social media users were left stunned by the bride's demands and attitude in general.
