The 69-year-old gogo who was assaulted by a teenager recently has received counselling services.
As Briefly.co.za reported, a viral video showed the 19-year-old girl beating the elderly woman with a stick, causing social media outrage.
According to East Coast Radio, the incident happened in KwaHlabisa in KwaZulu-Natal. It's unclear what sparked the assault.
Ncumisa Ndelu, a spokesperson for KZN's department of social development, said social workers have reached out to the gogo:
What they've found so far is that the old woman lives alone. She has no children. They have offered her a selection of services including an offer to remove her from the area until the situation settles down.
She added that the teenage girl is in Grade 11 and has a child who is 13 months old. Additionally, she has behavioural issues.
The unnamed girl was arraigned in court recently on charges of common assault. She was released on a warning.
