- Jose Mourinho withdraws from press conference over lack of 'respect'
- Mourinho watched helplessly as the pair of Lucas Moura and Harry Kane scored for Tottenham
- The 3-0 defeat leaves Manchester United on the 13th spot of the Premier League log
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho made a plea for more “respect” after the crisis at the Premier League outfit got worst on Monday night after Tottenham defeat as the Portuguese begins the fight to save his job.
According to a Mirror report the Red Devils boss was made a subject of caricature by Tottenham fans with chants of “you're getting sacked in the morning” after Mauricio Pochettino's first win at Old Trafford put more pressure on the under-fire football tactician.
The Portuguese boss abandoned his post-match press conference midway after defending United's display and insisting he deserves more respect after claiming three Premier League titles - more than the rest of his current rivals put together.
“Do you know what was the result?” said a visibly annoyed Mourinho. “3-0. Do you know what this means, 3-0?
“It also means three Premierships - and I won more Premier Leagues alone than the other 19 managers together.
“Three for me and two for them. So respect man, respect, respect.”
Before stepping out of the press conference, Mourinho suggested there was a hidden agenda against him and stressed he did not deserve to be castigated for the worst defeat of his career at home in any competition.
“You want to make the miracle of my team playing so well and strategically we were so, so good and you want to try and transform this press conference into 'let's blame the guy',” said Mourinho.
“You have to tell me what is the most important thing? When I win matches I come here many times and you're not happy and you say the most important thing is the way of playing.
“I need to know what is the most important thing. If it is is to play well or win matches?
“Today we were aggressive, we pressed high, Tottenham couldn't make two passes coming from the back, we projected the full-backs, we had Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw arriving in dangerous positions.
“We missed chances, we were unlucky with rebounds in both goals, we lost a game by conceding the first corner of the match, in the first-half zero free-kicks, on minute 50-something they have one corner and score a goal, and with that goal you want to transform the story of your game.
“The best judge in football are the supporters, they are the best supporters.”
Interestingly, when the Portuguese was informed that many Manchester United supporters left the stadium before the final whistle, Mourinho replied: “I would do the same, losing 3-0, with it taking two hours from here to the centre of Manchester.
“I would do the same, so keep trying. We lost last season here against Sevilla and were booed because we deserved, because Sevilla deserved to win the match.
“We were booed – deservedly - and today the players left the pitch and were applauded because they deserved it. So keep trying.”
After the final whistle, Mourinho stood on a spot for some time applauding the club’s fans for their loyalty, despite the big loss that also saw them drop four spots to 13.
Indeed, it is the first time since 1992 that the Red Devils have suffered two defeats in their opening three Premier League fixtures, which has left the Portuguese future in serious doubt.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss was already at loggerheads with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward over their inability to bring in his summer transfer targets.
Three Lions forward Harry Kane put the visitor ahead in the 50 minute after out jumping Phil Jones. The Red Devils were still adjusting from the temporary setback when Brazil’s Lucas Moura netted his first of the night.
Six minutes from time Moura was in explosive form again after surging through the middle to blast home his second goal without any resistance from David De Gea.
Reacting after the match Spurs forward Kane said: "That's massive. To come here and win the way we did is a big statement. Three wins out of three, it's a fantastic start. We did well to come in at 0-0 at half-time. In the big games, the first goal is so important.
"We then saw the game out great. This is the only way we're going to win the league. The top six is so strong now you have to stay at the top all the way through. This will give us huge belief and this is the type of game we have to win."
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com previously had reported that Manchester United on Monday night, August 27, suffered another embarrassing defeat in the Premier League as they were defeated by Tottenham 3-0 at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils went into this game with the hopes of getting the maximum three points after losing their last tie at Brighton, but United made their fans livid again.
Although there was no goal scored in the first 45 minutes, but Jose Mourinho's were completely mesmerized by Tottenham in front of their faithfuls.
