Video emerges of alleged attempted child kidnapping in Johannesburg

South Africans are afraid that their children are not safe on the streets anymore. After a video emerged showing what seems like the attempted kidnapping of a schoolboy, parents are convinced that the safety of their children isn't guaranteed.

A video recorded by what is likely a surveillance camera was shared on social media and it shocked South Africans to their cores.

The video shows a white Toyota stopping near a schoolboy before a man climbs out of the car and approaches the boy, who and quickly runs away. The car then quickly reverses after the child.

The passenger in the vehicle runs after the frightened boy and a short scuffle ensues. The child bravely fights off the alleged would-be kidnapper and runs into the nearest yard.

Fortunately, the assailants give up and drive off, leaving behind a child that is certainly now traumatised.

Jacaranda FM reports that there are disputes over what really happened and some people believe it was not a failed kidnapping but an attempted robbery.

Regardless of the motives of the attackers, a child's life was in danger and that remains a disturbing worry.
