The 24th floor of the Health department building in Johannesburg caught on fire at about 10:00 am on Wednesday morning.
As the fight to put out the fire continued, one firefighter sadly lost his life. EWN reports that the firefighter lost his balance and fell to his death from the 23rd floor.
Michael Sun, Johannesburg MMC for Public Safety, also confirmed the tragic news.
There are also 3 firefighters trapped inside the building, according to Sun. A helicopter is trying to help evacuate other people who are also trapped in the burning building.
A rescue team has been put together to help the trapped firefighters escape.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the cause of the fire is still unknown at this time.
