- Even after his win, he felt that his sexuality would affect his music career, but he can’t stand to hide it any more
Craig Lucas has penned an open letter to his fans, friends and family to finally free himself of the burden he has been carrying for a long time.
In the letter, ‘The Voice’ season 2 winner revealed that he has been struggling with suicidal thoughts and depression his whole life, but he also wanted to announce that he is in a relationship with a man.
Lucas posted the letter on social media and explained that he could no longer hide his relationship because it is a part of who he is but by keeping it a secret, he was severely depressed and constantly fighting off thoughts of suicide.
Briefly.co.za learned that depression runs in the musician’s family and his father killed himself when Lucas was only three, but he was determined to not share the same fate as his father.
When he realized that he had fallen deeply in love with a close friend and the feelings were mutual, the couple began dating, but when he earned a coveted spot on ‘The Voice’, he made a tough decision.
Lucas and those closest to him felt that he should keep his relationship lowkey because it might ruin his chances of advancing in the competition, but now since his win, he still has been too afraid to share his secret.
Finally, the singer came out of the closet and acknowledges that he will lose fans, friends and even family with his announcement.
The Daily Voice reports that in 2011, Lucas found himself attracted to his best friend, but he felt confused by his feelings as he has been in relationships with women in the past.
Lucas initially cut all ties with his friend but in 2016, the couple met up again and have been dating since.
