SAPS appeals for info after criminals make off with down syndrome son in car

A car was stolen with a 34-year-old Down Syndrome man still inside of it. The police is asking for the East London community to help them find the car and the man as soon as possible. Details of the car and a photo of the man, Ryan Meyer, has been shared on social media.

The South African Police Service has called for help from the public to find a 34-year-old man in East London.

The man has Down Syndrome and the police and his family worry for his safety after he was still in a car that was stolen on Wednesday, 5 August. The crime is estimated to have taken place at around 4pm.

Ryan Meyer was waiting in his father's parked car in front of a tyre fitment centre in Cambridge Street. The fitment centre belongs to Floyd Meyer, the 34-year-old's father.

A stranger climbed into the car, a blue Mazda 3, and simply drove off with Ryan still inside. The car's registration FFM218EC.

A search by SAPS has been intensified.
