- Winnie bagged the role of a witch on Mzansi Magics The Heard
- There have been negative comments stating that she will never been seen as anything but Khethiwe (her former role), but she has not let it define her
- The actress is loving the challenge of her new role and stated that it has pushed her to grow
Winnie Ntshaba has once again proved just how talented she is as an actress. Her role as Khethiwe in Generations won over the hearts of many South Africans, but the role she is playing as MaMngadi on The Herd is something else.
Khethiwe is a name of one of the chickens MaMngadi scarifies in one of her rituals. Winnie has come to terms there is the possibility that fans will not let go of Khethiwe, reported Times Live.
Reading comments that have been made, she says people are saying that should she decide to star in an international film, she will still be known as Khethiwe.
Briefly.co.za learnt that she has been able to brush off the negative comments saying that she is now MaMngadi. Winnie says that with her fans still referring to her as Khethiwe, it proves the impact the role she played had on people’s lives.
Winnie is not letting Khethiwe have a negative impact on her. She is ensuring that her new role will be of such that people will also feel and respond to it as they did with Khethiwe.
She also said that maybe she has found her calling with playing the role of MaMngadi. The role portrays a different character which is so unusual and this intrigued viewers. The character is a witch but one with good intentions.
MaMngadi is the story of a selfish witch that takes advantage of a man in order to get a husband. Even though she is self-centred, she genuinely cares for her family and is always making sacrifices for them.
Bheki is very focused on slaying his wife in order to get her money that he has no time to show any love for MaMngadi. This makes her very unhappy as she yearns to be loved but is not receiving it.
Mamngadi is at the centre of the story as the witch who took advantage of a desperate man's ambition and greed to score herself a husband and now expects the man to love her genuinely.
The challenge of starring as MaMngadi was the thing Winnie loved about it. She plays alongside actors like Sello Maake ka Ncube, Zethu Dhlomo, Sihle Ndaba and Tiisetso Thoka.
Winnie is over the moon with the connection the cast and crew of The Herd have formed, making the on-screen chemistry one of a kind.
