A former student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal has finally obtained her degree certificate after appealing for help on Twitter.
Ntombizamaswazi Shabalala owed the university R5,918 and could not get her certificate until she cleared the amount, Briefly.co.za gathered.
She therefore requested well-wishers on Twitter to fundraise the amount because she was missing out on job opportunities.
The response from tweeps across South Africa was heartwarming and positive. Ntombizamaswazi's appeal quickly racked up over 1,900 retweets.
In subsequent tweets, she revealed that she had finally raised the amount thanks to generous tweeps who sent their contributions.
Ntombizamaswazi thanked well-wishers for helping her:
I can safely say I am finally getting my qualification thanks to all the wonderful and kindhearted people who assisted me with their hard-earned money.
Tweeps demonstrated the true spirit of Ubuntu by reaching out to assist a stranger.
Others shared similar situations they currently face.
