Fourways shootout between police and robbers lead to arrests

- A gang of robbers were arrested in Johannesburg after aerial and ground crews swooped in on them

- There was a shootout and two suspects were injured while the police suffered no wounds

- The suspects were arrested and taken in for questioning

Fourways saw a scene that would have looked at home on the silver screen on Tuesday when police and robbers had a shootout.

A gang of robbers were trying to make their getaway when police chased after them.

While there were no fatalities as a result of the shootout, four suspects have been arrested.

Ground crews and aerial support swooped in on the criminals and they were taken in for questioning.

The shootout happened in Leslie Avenue at around 11:00, where two suspects were injured and the rest arrested.

The South African reports that Kay Makhubela, spokesperson for the police, confirmed that to his knowledge, no police officers were injured during the shootout.

This encouraging news comes after the police released statistics indicating that crime is alarming and 57 people are murdered in South Africa every day, according to an earlier report by Briefly.co.za.
