- Two security guards were arrested after they assaulted a man and dragged him to their truck
- The men were called in to calm down a fight but their behaviour was condemned by onlookers
- The two men will now face assault charges and will appear for their bail application on Thursday
Two security guards will face assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm charges after they were filmed abusing a man in Mpumalanga.
The men were captured on camera as they manhandled and dragged the man to their truck on Monday. Onlookers questioned under what authority the men were treating the man so harshly.
The video footage was shared on social media and has South Africans enraged. The police arrived on the scene and tried to intervene but to no avail, apparently.
The actions of these men were met with protests and led to the closure of the N4 between Machadodorp and Carolina, according to a report by IOL News.
Colonel Mtsholi Bhembe confirmed that the two men were arrested after the incident.
Bhembe did not want to comment on whether or not this incident was racially-driven because the security officers are white and the man is black.
The accused appeared at the Belfast Magistrate's Court and will appear for bail application on Thursday.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the man allegedly had an argument with an employee of a local business. The owner called a local security company when the argument turned into a fight. When the men arrived, they violently loaded them onto their truck.
South Africans took to social media to voice their disgust with the actions of the two men:
@LeonRousseau1 -You have video evidence and the vehicle’s registation number. Open a case at the police station. Ignoramuses like this need to spend time in jail!
@xWilus - I hope these 2 guys pay dearly for this horrible deed. It is inhumane. WTF must go through your mind that you think you are allowed to do something like this. And the arrogance to do it in front of all the other people.
