France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris fined and gets 20-month ban for drink-driving

France World Cup winner and Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has been fined KSh 6.5 million (R950 000) after pleading guilty to driving home drunk following a night out with fellow France teammates.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper was found in a compromising position, slurring words and wobbling around on his feet with what appeared to be vomit on his clothes.

According to the Evening Standard, Lloris was spotted veering across the road in his KSh 14.9 million Porsche, and running a red light when it was stopped by central London police.

"Officers observed his speech was slurred, he was helped from the vehicle by an officer. He was unstable on his feet, and there was evidence of vomit in the scene," Prosecutor Henry Fitch said.

Lloris was so hammered he could barely get out of the driver's seat without being helped out by a a police officer.

Prosecution said that Lloris had a passenger in the car when he was pulled over by police.

"This is a very serious offence. It is pure luck your didn't have an accident and cause damage to other cars of possibly pedestrians in the local area," Magistrate Amanda Barron said.

Lloris was arrested by at 2am after failing a roadside breathalyser test and appeared at Westminster Magistrates' court on Tuesday, September 11.

The France keeper was found to be beyond the legal limit of 35 microgrammes, having had 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

He was later taken to the station where his mug shot, fingerprints and a DNA swab were taken before he was banged up in cell.
