Valencia winger Denis Cheryshev, Russia's top scorer at the concluded 2018 FIFA World Cup is under investigation for an alleged doping violation.
Cheryshev fell under suspicion after his dad revealed he had used growth hormone (HGH) treatment.
The world anti doping agency told BBC the former Real Madrid man's case was being handled by the Spanish anti-doping authorities.
The 31-year-old could be staring at a four-year ban if found guilty of taking HGH without a therapeutic exemption.
However, Cheryshev is confident that he is clean and believes there will be no issue arising from the investigations.
"On my side, everything has been honest and I think there will be no problem. I think we'd better leave this case in the hands of medics, who have done everything right," the Valencia player said.
On his part, Cheryshev's father defended his son and said his comment the 31-year-old using HGH made before the football mundial, was gravely misquoted by a journalist.
