- Fikile Mbalula wants Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba to take responsibility for the death of three firefighters
- The men died while fighting the fire in a government-used building in Johannesburg
- Mayor Mashaba is shocked that Mbalula is pointing a finger at him
Tragic events played out last week as three firefighters lost their lives in a blaze that devoured the Johannesburg Health Department building.
Fikile Mbalula, the ANC's head of elections, has put the blame for the deaths of the firefighters at the feet of the city's mayor, Herman Mashaba.
Mbalula said that Mashaba should take political blame for the death of the three men because they were working for him.
Those firefighters were ill-equipped, ill-trained and they went inside the building.
Mbalula added that when he was still police minister he warned the mayor about the conditions of the buildings in Johannesburg.
Mashaba is shocked that Mbalula blames him for the fire, according to a report by News24
He said that Mbalula insulted the memory of the firefighters with his comments and wanted him to apologise.
However, Mbalula responded by saying Mashaba missed his point - he was talking about the City of Johannesburg, not the firefighters.
One of the firefighters that went into the building blames the government for the three deaths, according an earlier report by Briefly.co.za.
The two men turned to social media to voice their opinions what was said:
