- DJ group Major Lazer released an album featuring music from all over Africa
- Some of SA’s music icons, like Babes Wodumo and Cassper Nyovest also feature on the album
- Major Lazer toured across the continent last year and were inspired to create something after their experience
Major Lazer are earning themselves some serious street cred in Mzansi after releasing their latest album, ‘Afrobeats Mix’ which features some of the best talent that not only SA, but Africa has to offer.
The DJ group toured across Africa in 2017 and were inspired by all the different types of music that they heard and couldn’t wait to collaborate on a new album.
This is not the first time that the American DJs have worked with local talent, they worked with Nasty C on their track ‘Particula’ and that was when they realized that Africa had an abundance of undiscovered talent that were dying to create something with.
Major Lazer released the album earlier this week and it features the likes of Professor, HHP, Cassper Nyovest, Babes Wodumo, Riky Rick and far more than it is possible to name.
Briefly.co.za learned that not only did the artists work with Major Lazer, they also got the chance to work with each other for the project, allowing them to experiment with the different African sounds.
TimesLIVE reports that Dladla Mshunqisi, who has a song with Babes Wodumo on the album, did not believe the news at first.
DJ Tira called him to tell him that their song had cracked a nod, but it took him some to digest the news.
All artists that feature on the album are excited to have their music exposed to the rest of the world and hope to see the African music industry boom following its release.
Major Lazer and Nigeria's Burna Boy have released a music video for their track, 'All My Life'.
