The shoes you wear can say a lot about you. At least, that's what the shoe business would have us believe. And yet, they expect people to all wear the same designs. That was until two gifted and creative South Africans took custom shoes to a whole new level.
Sneakers are wildly popular - they're comfortable and can look quite pleasing too. And thanks to Thabiso Hadebe and Gent Sibuyi, they can look completely unique.
These two are actively redefining sneaker culture with their custom designs. Thabiso and Gent have a business together called Black Faff and it's changing the way people look at sneakers.
Black Faff creates custom shoes and has collaborated with Converse. The designed shoes for celebs like rap trio Migos as well as Parlotones singer Khan Morbee.
The artists love what they do and it shows in their work because really, every pair of shoes is a work of art on its own.
The biggest role we play as customising artists is that we are able to give people something unique that allows their sneakers to reflect their personality or their brand.
Thabiso and Gent have been in the business and they are growing bigger with every pair of shoes they redefine.
The two hope that other artists will also turn their passion into a way to earn a living.
There are so many talented young artists in South Africa who could and should be making a living off their talents. There is no perfect way to go about it, nor is there a system to follow – the journey is always unique to you and your craft, so stick to it.
These gentlemen make us proud to be South African and deserve every success that comes their way.
