- This time the mayor came under investigation by the Hawks on allegations of corruption
- The investigation is ongoing and several documents were seized by the Hawks
Lindiwe Makhalema's Dihlabeng municipality came under scrutiny by the Hawks. They did a search and seizure operation at the municipality.
The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigating Unit started an investigation on Wednesday on allegations of corruption, fraud and maladministration.
Makhalema made headlines earlier this year when she called President Ramaphosa a sellout.
Briefly.co.za reported about three months ago about how Makhalema publicly called President Ramaphosa "biggest stinking sellout she knows" on Facebook.
Social media was buzzing after photos were shared of the incident. She was suspended for a short while but resumed her post in July.
Maluti a Phofung local municipality was also investigated and the two municipalities have a combined amount of R56 million linked to corruption.
Captain S’fiso Nyakane said documents that will help with the ongoing investigation was taken from different offices.
As of yet, no arrests have been made.
