PSL wrap-up: Kaizer Chiefs return to winning plus all the other results

- Kaizer Chiefs have finally recorded their first win of the 2018/19 Premier League season

- Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a 3-3 draw by AmaZulu

- Orlando Pirates showed some of their potential by beating log leaders SuperSport United 3-1

This weekend will be remembered as the weekend when Kaizer Chiefs finally ended their nightmare start to the 2018/19 season and recorded their first win in the Premier League. Kaizer Chiefs thumped Cape Town City 4-1 in their match which took place in Cape Town on Thursday.

Going into the match Benni McCarthy was brimming with confidence and talked about how much he wanted his Cape Town City side to hurt Kaizer Chiefs. This was not to be as a rampant Kaizer Chiefs finally found their form and absolutely decimated the Cape Town side.

Kaizer Chiefs never looked like anything other than winning the match and started the match in super attack mode, this tactic paid off as the Glamour Boys finally gave head coach Giovanni Solinas his first Premier League win since assuming coaching duties at the legendary the club.

Briefly.co.za gathered that Orlando Pirates finally managed to overcome one of their biggest bogy sides of recent times with an emphatic 3-1 win over SuperSport United at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday evening.

Pirates finally played to the potential they showed during the pre-season and managed to put a difficult couple of weeks behind them. Kickoff.co.za reported that Pirates started the match slowly and seemed unsure but grew in stature and finally found their rhythm.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns continue to underwhelm. The current PSL champions were held to a 3-3 draw by AmaZulu. The match will be remembered as a pulsating encounter and shows that Mamelodi has put their goalscoring problems behind them but the club still has some work to do if it wants to defend the PSL title.

Other notable performances came from newly promoted Highlands Park who not only remained unbeaten in the PSL but also recorded their first win of the season when they beat Golden Arrows 2-1 on Sunday.

Steve Komphela’s new side, Bloemfontein Celtic, returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Black Leopards. The result means Bloemfontein have drawn level on points with the log leaders SuperSport United.

The PSL returns this week when Kaizer Chiefs take on Giovanni Solinas’ old side Free State Stars on Tuesday night.

Mamelodi Sundowns will face Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates will be up against Cape Town City in the mid-week encounters on Wednesday night.
