New Nelson Mandela Bay mayor commits to spending 100% funding on townships

Nelson Mandela Bay has a new mayor and he's kicking off things with a controversial bang.

Mongameli Bobani has big plans for Nelson Mandela Bay - more specifically, the townships.

Mayor Bobani plans to focus the entire municipal budget on townships and the northern areas. As for the more affluent areas in the metro - they'll be ignored.

The South African reported that Mayor Bobani said if the more affluent areas report sewerage problems, for example, Andile Lungisa - head of infrastructure and engineering - will be informed to ignore the complaint.

Since the announcement by the mayor, the National Mandela Bay Ratepayers’ Association opposed what he said and promised to fight his plans to ignore certain areas of the metro.
